Forty members of the Abu Sayyaf were killed and 25 were seriously injured due to intensified military campaign against the group.

This is the first counter-offensives conducted by the military under the leadership of President Rodrigo Duterte. The thousands of military troops attacked the nest of terrorists backed by rocket-firing helicopters and artillery fire.
